The goal of this project was to (1) identify and outline environmental justice considerations related to open-space preservation efforts, and (2) develop an equity scorecard to guide the Metropolitan Council’s natural systems guide for local planning.
In anticipation of new Metropolitan Council requirements that all Twin City metro-area municipalities include a Natural Systems chapter in their 2050 comprehensive plans, Hennepin County established the Natural Resources Partnership Coalition (NRPC) to help cities in Hennepin County meet these requirements. NRPC has partnered with RCP to develop a suite of planning resources (case studies, fact sheets, best practices, model ordinance language, etc.) that communities can use to implement natural systems protection strategies.

The project will support Ramsey County's efforts to promote waste reduction and reuse and identify effective strategies for encouraging these practices among residents.
The goal of this project is to support the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe's Department of Natural Resources (DRM) with new environmental and food ecosystem initiatives.
To review existing resources and tools that measure return on investment (ROI) of climate actions, and develop or recommend a methodology for local municipalities.
Evaluate the effectiveness of existing building deconstruction grant programs and incentives, and develop resources to encourage homeowners and contractors to reuse or recycle building materials rather than sending them to a landfill.
Research existing models and tools that help translate or calculate waste reduction and recycling numbers into climate or community impacts, and offer recommendations for how Ramsey/Washington R&E can adapt or develop such a resource for local use.
Analyze strategies and best practices for collecting food scraps from businesses, institutional settings (schools, hospitals), public entities, and other non-residential sources, as well as transporting food scraps to the preferred recycling facility; provide recommendations for how R&E should prioritize efforts for maximum impact moving forward.
To identify engagement strategies and develop outreach tools for the City of Afton to involve residents and other stakeholders in the planning and implementation of a future greenway corridor and trails in the city.
